Engrossing tale of young Sara Crewe, whose pleasant days at an English boarding school end abruptly when her father dies, leaving her penniless and at the mercy of a vindictive headmistress. A delightful fairy-tale ending makes this riches-to-rags-to-riches tale one that will captivate romantics of all ages.
This classic story has been a favorite of 3 generations of Bjorkmans.
I reread A Little Princess at age 24, and for the first time realized just how much of my young idea of virtue and noble girlhood was defined by the character of Sarah Crewe. Even today I find myself making attitude and character decisions based on her determination to patiently endure difficulty, love the unlovable, and outcasts, and to find joy and beauty in all circumstances, just like a true princess would. ~ Kristina (Bjorkman)
