Peep Behind the Scenes

Often, hidden behind smiling faces are hurting hearts, and that which is attractive and alluring may be a facade, concealing the hard reality of life behind the scenes. This dramatic book is both powerful and sensitive, and sold over 2 and a half million copies in the 19th century! It continues to be a favorite among our collectors.

About the Author:
Mrs. O.F. Walton, who published her first book in 1870 under her father’s name, was born Amy Catherine Deck. A few years later, after her marriage to Octavius Frank Walton, she became known as Mrs. O.F. Walton. Christie’s Old Organ and A Peep Behind the Scenes were written in this early part of her career. The content of her books revealed her sympathy to the difficult lives of poor wives and mothers – those who were often times neglected by drinking husbands and left alone to look after their children. Her works written in the latter part of her life, while not neglecting her evangelical themes, contained stories of adventure and mystery. It was during this time that Winter’s Folly , a story for girls, was written.
